It would be a decision which would prove fatal to Chelsea's Champions League defence this season, as Willian inspired Shakhtar to victory over the Blues in Ukraine and hand them initiative in the group.
As the transfer window approaches, it appears that Chelsea are renewing their interest in the attacker.
Speaking in an interview with Brazilian magazine O Globo, he said: "I know both Juventus and Chelsea have made offers for my registration, Shakhtar will decide in the forthcoming future. They know that I want to leave, everyone knows that. The President told me he will let me go for 30 million euro, and my intention is to arrive in a great club. "
It had been thought that as Willian had helped Shakhtar qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League, he would prefer to stay with them for now.
However it appears he is thinking of the long game, rather than just the short-term, and is determined to clinch a move while his stock is high.
It is interesting to hear Chelsea have made an offer, but whether they match Shakhtar's valuation remains to be seen. If they stood firm last January they are even more likely to do so this time, and will not want to break up a successful team in the midst of a European campaign.
The question is, do Chelsea need Willian? Or should their priorities lie with an out and out striker, central midfielder, and centre-back?
