Chelsea dealt out a supreme performance at Stamford Bridge to get everyone at the club in the festive mood as Aston Villa were the victims of a 8-0 humbling. While Villa’s performance left little to be desired Chelsea were truly fantastic in attack and strong at the back. Fernando Torres’s opening header would have made Malcolm McDonald proud and from there it was up, up and away for Rafa Benitez and his men with goals from David Luiz, Branislav Ivanovic, Frank Lampard, Ramires (2), Oscar and Eden Hazard continuing the rout.
The employment of David Luiz in the heart of midfield looks a touch of magic from Benitez as Ivanovic still looks the strongest option at centre-back in the absence of John Terry. Meanwhile he made another brave switch when he brought on Lucas Piazon in the 74th minute for Juan Mata. The young Brazilian is highly thought of by club staff and fans at the club so many were pleased to see him. On paper he had a mixed introduction. History will show he had a penalty saved by Brad Guzan yet that does not tell the tale. He earned the penalty himself and Guzan made several saves in what was not too bad a performance; without him Villa could have been looking at double figures.
His first involvement was a sublime assist for Ramires; his scything pass sliced Joe Bennett and Nathan Baker apart in the Aston Villa defence.
So what did the fans on Twitter make of his involvement…?
Good night guys! Im going to bed really happy with me and with the team , was a special night for all of us! Thank you all #cfcforever
