CES results in PS4 and Xbox 720 rumours

Rumours have been leaked around Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox 720, codenamed Orbis and Durango respectively, detailing the two mega-companies’ future competitors.

According to VG247, who chatted to developers on their return from the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the PS4 will have the edge in processing power, hosting a processor based on the AMD A10 APU,

This will have a run-capability of 1.84 teraflops around 50 per cent more than the next Xbox’s rumoured 1.23 teraflops, produced by what is believed to be a chip-set based on the Radeon HD 8770 GPU.

However, gamers shouldn’t count Microsoft’s next gaming behemoth out just yet, as the Durango (also known as Infinity) will boast 8GB of RAM, with 4-5GB dedicated for running games.

If true, this would handily beat Sony’s comparable spec, which rumours suggest will see RAM capped at 4GB for the whole system, with 1GB going towards running the OS and 3GB towards games.

These systems could be unveiled to the general public as soon as late-March 2013, if reports by Videogamer.com are to be believed.

According to the site, an uncovered issue of Game Informer magazine for February 2013 has revealed that the two companies will aim to show off their new home consoles near the Game Developers Conference during that period.

The report suggests that Microsoft and Sony will adopt Apple’s stylistic approach to press releases and that both companies are targeting GDC to steal the stage ahead of the flurry of news that comes out of the E3 convention in June.
