Manchester United have left the UK for Qatar where they will this week ahead of their FA Cup fourth round clash with Fulham on Saturday. The players were photographed in pyjamas on the flight before they trained at the Aspire Academy in Doho later on.
United defender Rio Ferdinand took to Twitter to give his thoughts on Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham at White Hart Lane in which United conceded on 90 minutes and were denied what the veteran defender described as a ‘stone wall penalty’.
“Hard game....would have took a draw before game. Stone wall penalty not given for us tho!!! We don't get all the decisions like every1 says!” Ferdinand said referring to an incident involving Wayne Rooney.
Sir Alex Ferguson could face ‘sanction’ from the FA after comments he made following Sunday’s draw with Spurs criticizing linesman Simon Beck.
“For me it was a poor performance by him,” said the Scot.
“He had a shocking game. I’m disappointed in his performance, I really am.”
The Manchester Evening News is reporting that the Football Association have already been in contact with Ferguson regarding the outspoken comments.
Michael Carrick was voted in a fan poll as Man of the Match for United with a 39% share of the vote, ahead of Rio Ferdinand with 33%, Phil Jones on 17% and Danny Welbeck with 11% for their performances on Sunday.
Meanwhile United striker Robin van Persie has asserted his belief that switching from a number 10 at Arsenal to a ‘number 9 role’ in the last two seasons with the Gunners and now United has been behind his impressive form and fitness record:
“As a No 10 you have to deal with the defensive midfielder of the opposition. Depending how they play you can have a really difficult game.”
In transfer news, out-of-favour striker Federico Macheda is reportedly the subject of interest from Bundesliga side Stuttgart, according to their director Fredi Bobic.
Meanwhile the Mirror claims Sir Alex Ferguson met with young transfer target Wilfried Zaha in a ‘top London hotel’ on Sunday night with a view to convincing him that Old Trafford is where his future lies.
The Crystal Palace starlet is reportedly the subject of a new and improved £15 million offer from United.
In other news, Manchester United’s U21 Premier League clash with West Ham’s U21’s has been postponed due to the weather conditions.
Elsewhere, Angelo Henriquez impressed on his Premier League debut with his first goal for Wigan, where he is on loan from United for the remainder of the season, after coming on as a substitute against Sunderland.
