FIFA 13 tops £1bn in sales

FIFA 13 has raked in the most amount of money in the franchise’s history, according to analysts at Chart-Track, meaning the football-emulating series has now netted over £1bn in the UK alone.

In a breakdown given to CVG, Chart-Track said that the £1bn milestone was reached through 40 FIFA games, with the two most recent titles accounting for sales of over £200 million.

The title was released before rabid fans late last year, with EA Sports reporting over 1 million copies sold in the UK within the first 24 hours. Globally the game netted sales of over 4.5 million units in just five days.

“Every minute of every day millions of fans around the world are experiencing what the critics have already said—FIFA 13 is the biggest and best sports game we have ever created,” beamed Andrew Wilson, executive vice president of the publisher.

Following this, gamers eager to show off their skills signed up to the FIFA Interactive World Cup in droves, amounting to more than 1.6 million players. The tournament has become so big it was named the world’s largest by the Guinness book of records.
