THQ fallout continues

Following the collapse of publisher THQ and the auctioning off of its key studios and properties, a number of the buyers have come forward to outline their plans.

Fans of the FPS Homefront will be pleased to hear that Crytek, makers of the lavish looking Crysis series, snapped up the IP with the intent on delivering a blockbuster sequel.

According to the company, it submitted a high bid for the property, saying that it was determined to build on it.

Meanhwile, Sega celebrated its acquisition of RTS-makers Relic, alongside key million-seller franchises such as Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War and Company of Heroes. The former series has sold more than 7 million copies world wide, while the latter saw sales of 4 million copies.

"We are incredibly excited to welcome Relic Entertainment into the Sega family. They are a highly respected development studio, with Company of Heroes and the Warhammer series both testament to the pedigree of their games,” commented Jurgen Post, President and COO, Sega Europe.

“This acquisition is a strong strategic fit for us and completely in line with our focus on developing new and existing content.”

Not all the news was good, with Darksiders developer Vigil Games failing to find a home, prompting lead combat designer Ben Cureton to leave an emotive farewell message on Neogaf.

“Vigil was filled with people that I would put up against the best in the industry,” he commented.

“People that made my work better, people that made me a better designer, and people that made me a better person. And now they are gone.”

He also explained that the company’s next project, codenamed Crawler, was on track to “blow people away”.
