There were some pretty amazing sights throughout Thursdays Transfer Deadline Day. Some were expected; for instance a helicopter. Although this helicopter has to go down as the least necessary helicopter arrival in the history of transfer deadline day as Mike Ashley arrived at Newcastle United’s training facility to shake hands with the new signings and tell Xisco his flight back to Spain leaves in the morning (reports the Spaniard was refused the use of Ashley's helicopter are unfounded).
However the sight of Simon Jordan doing a Shane Warne impression in the most bizarre ever episode of the Odd Couple with Niall Quinn was a slightly less expected phenomenon from the evenings escapades; in fact I expected to be entertained by their oppositional toing-and-throwing about as much as QPR expected Peter Odemwingie to turn up at Loftus Road.
The Tottenham Hotspur and former England midfielder had earlier agreed a loan move to the club where he would again team up with former boss Harry Redknapp; and hope to put his injury hell behind him at the club.
Just as he was sporting a camera-friendly smile, saying the right things about the relegation dogfight and shaking hands with the school kids hanging around for a sighter of new arrivals he realised he had been locked out of the building.
My theory is that the entire building was on lockdown over worries of an unwanted guest; Mr Odemwingie himself.
The Nigerian drove down to London without the permission of his club West Brom and QPR refused him entry upon arrival. But judging at how desperate he was to make the move leaving the doors open would have been a dangerous protocol.
I can see him now just sneaking in, hiding at the ground, kitting up and deciding that he was playing for Redknapp on Saturday against Norwich.
Try explaining that substitution to the fourth official!
