Wycombe continued their recent good form by beating high flying Gillingham in a League Two match-up last night. An 85th minute strike from substitute Matt McClure was the difference and after the game Wycombe found themselves trending worldwide on Twitter; but not particulary for the right reasons.
Recently we have had a few unsavoury interactions between players and members of the public at football matches in the UK. Chris Kirkland was assaulted by a Leeds fan, who was later sentenced to 16 weeks imprisonment. Then there is the lad who decided he would take on Rio Ferdinand only for Joe Hart to intervene and who can forget Eden Hazard stubbing his toe on an irritating but still fairly innocent ball-boy.
Last night at Priestfield came another example after a young lad entered the field of play and jumped on the back of on-loan Wycombe stopper Jordan Archer knocking him to the floor. If you haven't yet seen the incident here it is:
Yet many found the more amusing part of the event; trying to find a silver lining in what was again a sour note for football. Of those that found the moment particulary hilarious included some of Archer’s team-mates; at Tottenham. The 19-year-old is on-loan at Adams Park from Spurs and the likes of Tom Carroll, Alex Pritchard and on-loan QPR star Andros Townsend were involved in the online banter:
