Granted he’s not French (Argentinean) but he does play in Ligue 1 for Nice and Newcastle’s experience in the French transfer market means they could easily go about pulling a deal off.
He’s the joint second highest scorer in France’s top division so far this season and seems to have an all round game which suits the way that Newcastle like to play their football.
He’s also 28-years-old so Alan Pardew knows that he can still get the best out of him if he was the sort of striker that he wanted to go after.
Newcastle also have an ace up their sleeve if they do want him in the form of current skipper Fabricio Coloccini.
If Coloccini leaves the club at the end of the season as expected then Newcastle could urge him to aid this transfer by talking to his fellow Argentine and effectively selling Newcastle in a positive way.
There are only two major problems that Newcastle will face if they want a striker of this nature and calibre.
Firstly, Cvitanich has only just joined Nice, signing for the club last summer. He may not want the upheaval of moving and settling into the culture of another country.
The other possible stumbling block is the fee which would be involved. He’s the best player at Nice, a productive goalscorer and someone they won’t let go without a fight.
Newcastle seem to like paying small fees for players they bring over from France but this is one transfer which could well top the £10 million mark, which is something Pardew may be put off by.
Then there is the natural problem of scrambling for his signature once other sides become aware that Newcastle are talking to him and hence, he’s available.
There are many other sides in the Premier League who would benefit from this sort of player such as Southampton who have a new, Spanish speaking boss which may be more appealing to Cvitanich.
Newcastle like to think outside the box in terms of their transfers so this move could happen if he’s the sort of player Newcastle are looking for.
Newcastle fans, do you think Cvitanich would be a good fit at the club?
