Hosting Barcelona were dominant throughout the game at Camp Nou and began with Alexis Sanchez getting on the scoresheet as early as the sixth minute.
The Chilean winger had not scored a La Liga goal until now but he was played in by a wonderful defence splitting Iniesta pass.
The Catalans doubled the lead shortly after when Iniesta was involved again, this time playing in Thiago Alcantara who tapped the ball to Messi and the Argentine forward scored in his 13th consecutive game.
Barca continued to dominate the play after the break and David Villa was soon on the scoresheet, Jordi Alba this time was the provider, playing in Villa who tapped the ball under Codina.
Alexis was replaced by Cristian Tello in the 73rd minute and the 21-year-old winger took one touch and then a second before placing the ball past Codina to make it 4-0.
Alvaro Vazquez scored a consolation goal for Getafe after Alba’s poor defensive header allowed the former Espanyol man to tap past Victor Valdes.
But it mattered not as goals from Iniesta and Gerard Pique gave Barcelona a resounding victory.
