Manchester City’s current inconsistency defending their Premier League title this season could cause the club’s Qatari owners to force Roberto Mancini out at the start of summer leaving a very high profile vacancy.
However, if Moyes receives an offer he needs to bear in mind several reasons as to why he should resist the temptation of joining one of the richest and biggest clubs in the world.
The first basic thing which could work against him is that he’s not used to managing at a club which has a lot of money to spend.
He has always worked on a tight budget at Everton, using certain tactics and methods in the way that he spends his money. City would demand some high profile signings whereas Moyes may prefer to go about things differently.
It could be a remarkably similar situation to the one we currently see with Arsene Wenger at Arsenal; a club with solid financial power but a manager that doesn’t like overspending on players.
The other aspect which could work against Moyes is the fact he has complete control and domination of everything to do with Everton.
He controls the team, every single aspect of the team and has the undoubted respect of all of his players and fans.
These are all things that would be risked if he joined Manchester City because there are some big egos in the Manchester City squad and the fans demand constant success in the face of their main rivals.
There is also the aspect that he’s in the middle of an adventure at Everton, which he will definitely want to continue if the Merseyside club manage to qualify for the Champions League at the end of this season.
Everton is very much his club and a team which he has built up using a certain method which may not necessarily work at other clubs where the expectations and perceptions of the game are different.
Any chance of Moyes going to City? How do you think he’d get on?
