Andurand Capital Management LLP took on as an intern Clement Lefert, winner of a swimming gold medal at the London 2012 Olympics, as the oil and commodities hedge fund expands its team after it began trading February 1st.

Bloomberg reports that Lefert will start in May as an analyst with the aim of becoming a trader in the future, Pierre Andurand, founder of the hedge fund and a former member of the French junior national swimming team, said Monday by e-mail. Andurand started the company after closing the BlueGold energy hedge fund last year following losses in 2011.

In the meantime, Bloomberg also reports that Steve Weller, co-head of Citadel LLC’s global equities group, left after more than a decade at the hedge fund run by Kenneth Griffin.

Weller departed from the Chicago-based firm last week, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the information is private. Brandon Haley, 38, who ran the group with Weller, was picked as the unit’s sole head, Katie Spring, a spokeswoman for Citadel, confirmed by phone today. Investors were told about the management change on February 6th, she said.

And Reuters reports that the private wealth arm of JP Morgan has appointed seven bankers to its British division, poaching five from rivals, as expansion plans continue apace under its new boss Tracey Reddings.

Executive directors Richard Cockburn, James Drace-Francis and Stefano Ferraiolo join from Societe Generale (SOGN.PA), UBS (UBSN.VX) and Credit Suisse (CSGN.VX) respectively, JP Morgan (JPM.N) said on Monday.

Bloomberg reports that George Frazer, a proponent of dividend investing who won notice for market-beating returns during a seven-decade career as fund manager at Toronto-based Leon Frazer & Associates, has died. He was 86.

He died on February 6th in Toronto, according to Turner & Porter funeral home. No cause was given.

Finally, Reuters reports that a New York fund manager was arrested on Monday on charges of orchestrating a Ponzi scheme and stealing around $2m from three hedge fund investors, U.S. authorities said.

Federal prosecutors charged Jason Konior, 39, with defrauding investors by promising to match their investments in his fund, Absolute Fund LP, many times over.
