Fernando Vazquez took over at Riazor last week following the sacking of Domingos Paciencia who lasted just six weeks in the job but Vazquez failed to get off to a successful start as coach of the Galician side.
Ivan Rakitic started the scoring in Friday night's La Liga tie, before Gary Medel added two either side of a Riki goal that was a mere consolation for the visiting Depor.
The result now leaves Depor sat rock bottom with just 16 points from 24 games and six points off the safety places and Vazquez insists his side need to win eight more games to have a chance of survival.
“Sevilla looked better than us. We couldn’t overcome them in several facets, but the team never gave up, even when the other team was better and demanding a lot of effort, " he told reporters.
“We have to work better and harder. The locker room is doing well. We have a long and difficult month, we know that and we have to accept it, but we must keep fighting and search for that first win.”
Meanwhile, Sevilla boss Unai Emery is feeling a little bit more upbeat about his side's performance but admits they still have a lot of improving to do.
“It was a gorgeous match, with great open field play with changes for both Sevilla and Deportivo, but we must be self-critical because we didn’t take control of the game and consistency in defence.
“Although the 27th is an important date (against Atletico Madrid), we must now think only of Barcelona and put our best eleven to try and win.
“At the moment I say we need to put our best eleven, but we’ll see how the injuries and bans are, but we lost an opportunity in Madrid and we can’t discount Barcelona, because our team has a deficit in the league.”
