Christian Benteke has been a stand out performer at a club which has seriously struggled so far this season.
He has led the Aston Villa attack superbly, in light of the fuss over Darren Bent’s role and future in the team.
The problem Villa now have is that the Belgian is attracting interest from different sides that all have a shortage of attacking power.
Villa will endure a shortfall in terms of finances if they go down to the Championship which means the lose power in terms of how much cash they can hold out for.
Even if they stay up, it will be very difficult for them to compete against the package that Spurs will offer, especially considering Tottenham look as though they are going to secure Champions League football for next season.
It’s almost a no brainer for Benteke if the rumours turn into a formal approach because Tottenham offer him a long list of things which Villa just can’t.
Fair enough, he’s working well in a system at Aston Villa which is effectively based around him and he’s already revealed his admiration for the club and gratefulness that they have given him a chance in the Premier League.
What will make the transfer easy for Spurs is how quickly it should go through if they want him.
They’re in a position to pay any fee Villa want, the wage deal they offer him is likely to be instantly better than what he’s getting at Villa and the North London club can offer him a higher standard of football.
Spurs are hungry for additional attacking players so someone with a record of 11 goals in 23 league games is going to get their attention and it could be the ease of a possible transfer which trumps other targets, more prolific targets and generally more expensive targets.
Spurs fans, would you like to see him at White Hart Lane?
