Isco has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge from Malaga for weeks and revealed last week that if the club needed to sell him, he’d have no choice but to accept a move.
Therefore, Chelsea may have started to get a little bit excited at the prospect of securing the future of another talented midfield man.
However, and it’s a really big however, Andres Iniesta of Barcelona has suggested that he, and the club, would welcome Isco to the Nou Camp should he become available.
It doesn’t take a genius to work out that if Barcelona are in for a player, from La Liga, then the context of the division and the magnitude of Barcelona is likely to trump any possible move to another club.
Isco is an extremely talented player who has superb control of the ball and he never seems to give the ball away. These are the two core qualities that Barcelona seem to look for when they are out recruiting.
Isco has revealed that he wants to stay at Malaga for years if the club can keep him which suggests he may have a much greater desire to stay in Spain.
La Liga is a much less physical league than the Premier League and you certainly can’t get away with as much in the Spanish game as we see in English games, routinely each and every week.
It’s also the experience, the profile and the pulling power of the current players at Barcelona which gives them the edge if they want to go after any player.
The fact Iniesta has revealed that he is personally keeping one eye on the progress of Isco suggests he’s not the only one at the Spanish club.
This doesn’t mean Chelsea shouldn’t even try to go after him if he becomes available, it just means it will be a lot more difficult and many Chelsea fans may even point to other areas which need to be addressed.
Chelsea are blessed in terms of their midfield and while they, and Barcelona, both have midfield players in the later stages of their careers, they may just cope if they miss out on Isco altogether.
Do you think he’ll stay in Spain?
