Piazon has already come off of the bench twice but the match against Athletic Bilbao was his first start which produced a standing ovation when he was subbed off after 81 minutes.
Malaga won the match 1-0 and it was Piazon who provided a precision assist for striker Javier Saviola to score the only goal of the game.
Piazon sat in the middle of the pitch and pulled the strings which is exactly what you would expect from a midfielder in any Spanish team.
It’s a change which seems to have suited the 19-year-old Brazilian youngster after he struggled to breakthrough at Chelsea.
He seemed to struggle with the pace and the physical nature of the Premier League so it’s no surprise Chelsea agreed to send him on loan to a club where he’d get more game time and would be better suited to the style of play.
“I like the way football is played here, passing the ball without looking to hit it long – Leaving was the best option – There was a lot of pressure and it was difficult for a young player to be able to play. I want to play and have opportunities to grow,” he said after the match.
If Chelsea fans are worried about the possibility they won’t get him back, they shouldn’t be.
His comments and desire to leave Stamford Bridge at the moment are understandable and justified and there’s no harm in it considering Chelsea could not offer him what he wanted.
He could play a very big part in Chelsea’s season next year if they appoint the right manager this summer and if they handle Piazon in the right way.
This is purely an example of what he can be and how he can play when he’s used in the right way. If he’s not thrown into a pressure cooker constantly then he could be as good as any player at Chelsea and possibly a replacement for Frank Lampard.
How do you think this spell at Malaga will help him?
