Pep Guardiola has never been the sort of coach to go out and blow loads of cash on players in a single summer if he already has that core quality he’s looking for.
Recent reports have suggested he may go after a striker this summer but Bayern Munich already have a very talented player on loan at Werder Bremen.
Nils Petersen is an absolute beast of a striker; tall at six feet two inches tall, strong, quick, athletic and effective.
The reason Guardiola is more than likely going to give him a chance is because of his record this season; 11 goals in 22 appearance, 19 from starting and three off the bench.
This is a 24-year-old who knows the Bundesliga so it makes no sense for Bayern to go out and buy another striker, as they already own one who has proven to be effective in a lower quality team this season.
If anything, Bayern will start sending players the other way so forwards like Petersen can get a run in the side and prove themselves at one of the biggest clubs in Europe.
That £40 million that Bayern would reportedly spend on Suarez could be much better used in other areas, such as going after Marco Reus of Borussia Dortmund.
Petersen has also represented Germany at three different levels; Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21. His chances of breaking into the senior team will only be enhanced when Bayern Munich call him back at the end of the season.
It’s going to be a make or break summer for him because his current contract runs out in the summer of 2014. If he can get himself into Guardiola’s thoughts then he will give himself a chance of staying at Bayern and earning a new deal.
Liverpool fans need to have faith in Guardiola’s quality in spotting players, especially ones he already has control of.
He regularly gave players like this a chance at Barcelona so there’s a very good chance Petersen will get a crack at the Bayern first team, which means they won’t be raiding Liverpool.
Forget about him staying, do you think your club should go after him before Guardiola takes charge?
