Why? It’s quite simple. He likes the buzz of a new club, life and culture much more than the stability of being at one club for an extended period of time.
If he had shown more commitment so far in his managerial career and with his words about the future, then there can be no doubt that he would be odds on for the Manchester United job once Fergie calls it a day.
It’s anyone’s guess as to what his next move will be. He could stay in Spain although he’s apparently not happy. He could head back to England or he could head off to Ligue 1 if Carlo Ancelotti makes way at PSG.
It wouldn’t be at all surprising if Mourinho ends his career with major honours in all of the big European nations; Portugal, England, Spain, Germany, Italy, France and maybe even somewhere like Russia.
The reason seems to be he likes the challenge too much. That challenge of going into a club having little experience of football in that country and leaving with a suitcase full of winners medals.
Then there is the issue of international management which is something he may take on as the ultimate test to see if his methods are as concrete and bullet proof as his success suggests.
There was a lot of talk about him taking over as England boss before Fabio Capello originally took the job but there can be little doubt that he wasn’t ready for that level of pressure or commitment.
So what next? Well if he leaves Real this summer then it could be a case of England or France because of the news Pep Guardiola is taking over at Bayern Munich.
He’s admitted that he would like to coach in France at some point in his career and he’s already stated that he wants to come back to England, which could well happen with Chelsea this summer of the hatchet is buried with a certain Russian owner.
That is unless Borussia Dortmund become available because they are definitely a club in the Bundesliga that Mourinho could win trophies with. It would also give him a chance to square up against his old foe.
Let’s just hope he doesn’t go around trying to gouge any more eyes.
Why do you think Mourinho hasn’t settled at one club?
