Right I feel that everyone is likely to be familiar with ‘Harlem Shake’ by now? If you’re not let me do everything within my power to enlighten you.
Basically it is the new Gangnam Style, Cat Meme, Pokemon Cards or Yo-Yo craze that is sweeping the nation in particular on a digital format. Across the country people from offices, the armed forces, hospitals, universities and the like are sending in their version of the popular viral video that has seen the song ‘Harlem Shake’ by Baauer rocket up the charts and also become an internet phenomenon.
It essentially involves performing a sudden cut-away dance routine after what seemed like a typical mundane situation. It also involves plenty of ridiculous costumes and an obligatory super-hero outfit.
Thousands of the ‘memes’ have spread across the internet over the past few days and now a Premier League football team has decided to get in on the act; the champions Manchester City.
What appears originally is a typically ordinary day in the Manchester City gym. Joe Hart and Edin Dzeko are cycling away, Joleon Lescott is having some work done on his leg, James Milner is pulling out the standard lunge while who I believe is Micah Richards performs some rather unconvincing plyometric steps nearest to the camera.
Then along comes Sports Scientist Tom Parry with club mascot ‘Moonchesters’ detached head upon his shoulders performing the exquisite but tame body popping routine that made him famous back in the summer (watch here) in the style of Neil from The Inbetweeners; before all hell breaks loose.
All of a sudden it is mayhem with bizarre costumes, what appears to be Joe Hart in an Iron Man suit and Aleksander Kolarov reducing this reporter to tears with his stone cold appearance. Is it too late for an Oscar nomination for the Serb?
However one of the more amusing facts is that even in the Harlem Shake video Scott Sinclair struggles to get in on the action; just sitting by the cycle machines legs crossed before the beat kicks in and Tom Parry hip-thrusts your eyes toward the eerie gaze of Kolarov.
Even after that it is hard to see how he gets involved. Here is the video for your own pleasure…
Oh wait that’s him on the skateboard. Good for you Scott.
