It was a close call though, with midfielder Moussa Dembele grabbing an injury time equaliser on the night to send Spurs through 3-2 on aggregate.
Yet again there were no goals from Emmanuel Adebayor, his seventh match against Lyon without scoring.
He is also yet to score since his return from the African Nations Cup, with Spurs missing Jermain Defoe through injury there have been increased spotlight on his performances.
After the 2-1 home leg win we took a look at how supporters reacted to the Togolese striker's performance, and it wasn't pretty as he was roundly criticised.
Again he played all 90 minutes last night but didn't get close to scoring; he didn't muster a single shot on goal.
He was better in possession though, completing 80 per cent of his passes compared to a shocking 60 per cent in the game at White Hart Lane. He also provided two key passes, goalscoring opportunities for teammates.
But was it enough to impress supporters?
Here is what they had to say on Twitter...
@glen_sykes: Think it's time to say bye to Adebayor in the summer. He is just not interested!
@rickyyido: Adebayor was alot better tonight. Parker and BAE had a shocker.
@james_colbourne: Desperately need Defoe back though, Adebayor is not good enough
@darrentheyido: I know it's difficult playing against a team who park the bus but where's the pace? Adebayor looks slower than my dead nan!
@danielpayton2: Adebayor has been so poor this season got his contract and not interested
@dannycoll: those 3 or 4 mins in a game when Adebayor actually gives a **** he looks quite decent. pity bout the other 86 mins!!
@kernowspurs: Great stuff tonight. Fully deserved the win I think. An hoping lack of a striker won't cost us because adebayor was useless again
@liam_mccarthy: Adebayor gets slated too much, I think he's played okay tonight, betterthan what Defoe would
@michaelc1961: Big shout for an much improved shift from Adebayor! Better! Now take the rest of the season by the short hairs and kick on!
What did you make of Adebayor's display?
