Neymar is one of the hottest commodities in world football at the moment and is carrying a valuation of over £50 million according to reports.
Brazilian legend Pele recently told Neymar to consider Barcelona over any English club for the simple reason that he doesn’t think Neymar is up to English football.
Pele has been very critical of the way Neymar has conducted himself throughout his career and has suggested he wouldn’t get the protection from the referees that he’d need playing in England.
“The game is tougher in England, Italy and Germany, because the referees usually let play go on - He is an excellent player but he doesn't have any experience outside Brazil. In every game he plays outside Brazil, he doesn't do well,” said Pele as per the Mirror.
To a certain extent he has a very good point because Neymar hasn’t been shy in criticising England and the Premier League.
Therefore, any move to England instantly makes him a target for the sort of players who like to be a little more physical than is average, which means his safety and short term fitness as a player is at risk.
He’s also got a very slight and slender frame which means he would struggle in nearly every challenge which is legal in England, which isn’t legal in other leagues across Europe and the world.
Not only would this be really frustrating for Neymar, it would also be very demoralising to his confidence, which seems to be something he relishes based on past comments and performances.
Pele has been criticised by those connected to Neymar for making comments about his character and personality but you can’t argue that everything Pele is saying isn’t right.
It’s for the same criticisms that Pele makes, which are the main reasons that few Premier League clubs, with the means, would bother to shell out over £50 million to sign him.
Manchester City and Chelsea are the most likely candidates but it’s unlikely Neymar would reject a Barcelona move for either.
How do you think Neymar would get on in England?
