The team who completed the Champions League's greatest ever comeback are on the verge of liquidation

Start typing in D-E-P-O-R into your personal preference of internet search engine and along with ‘Deport Piers Morgan’ pops up ‘Deportivo La Coruna’.

The La Liga side have a rich history in Spanish and European football having been in existence since 1906 and have spent much of their lifespan playing in Spain’s top flight.

Now however the very existence of the team hangs in the balance.

Spanish paper MARCA reports that Javier Tebas, the vice-president of Spain’s Professional Football League, has made the most alarming comments about the long-term future of the club yet.

He says that of all the teams in Spain’s top flight currently suffering financially Deportivo, more than Sevilla, Malaga or Mallorca, are the most at risk of liquidating within the next two years; especially if the Primera Liga’s basement club cannot survive the drop to Segunda Liga.

"If they do not get a good agreement and long terms of payment for the amount of debt they have [Deportivo] would be in a very complicated situation. In a time of reorganization of its debt, but if [Deportivo] fails in important deadlines they are a candidate to not continue operating in a period of two or three years"

"It's hard to say exact date, but I am convinced that in a period of a few months or a year will see a club is going to liquidate and disappear.’’

It would be a real shame if we lost Depor considering some of the memories they have given us over the years. ‘Super Depor’ contained the likes of Juan Valeron, Mauro Silva and Roy Makaay and won their first La Liga title in 2000.

They also completed possibly the greatest ever comeback in European Cup history when they beat AC Milan 4-0 amongst one of the greatest atmospheres in European history at the Riazor to complete an astonishing 5-4 aggregate victory to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2004.
