Of late seasons Everton have been known for their slow start and dynamic finish leaving them just short of European places. However after an astonishing win again Manchester United on the opening day of the season; this gave Everton fans a new hope that this year could be different.
After 10 games nobody could disagree with this sense of hope, sitting in 4th place with 17 points (12 places higher and 7 more points than at this stage the previous year).
At the half stage of the season Everton found themselves in 5th place, with only goals scored keeping them behind Tottenham in 4th. But if previous seasons were to go by then 4th place was well and truly in Everton sights.
After an unbeaten January Everton entered the final three and half months of the season just one point behind Tottenham with hope of Champions League football beginning to increase on the Blue half of Merseyside.
This sense of hope was soon dashed after a disastrous February were Everton failed to win a single league game and have now slipped to 6 points behind Tottenham who have a game in hand, and 5 points behind Arsenal.
Only 10 days ago David Moyes said "I want to see how we do in the cups and the league and it is more than likely that I won't make a decision until the end of the season.”
Therefore with Everton’s chances of Champions League football seeming to be slipping away and only three points ahead of Merseyside rivals Liverpool, their FA Cup Replay against Oldham has an added importance.
From the comments made by Moyes one would be forgiven to think that if Everton fall back any further in the League and without a good finish in the cup (at least Semi-Finals or Final) then Moyes may well not sign a new contract with the club.
What are your thoughts? Where do you think Everton will finish in the League? Do you think they can win the FA Cup? and do you think Moyes will sign a new deal?
