In December Gael Bigirimana scored the third goal against Wigan Athletic and became the first ever player from Burundi to score a Premier League goal. That took the number of nationalities to have bagged Premier League goals to 87 and we brought you the full list of nationalities the next day asking if you could name any of them?
That Gael Bigirimana goal was the Premier League’s 20,001st goal and of course the first scored by a player from Burundi but now you can add another African country to the list. We thought it would be pretty rude not to update our grand old list since the total is now 88 thanks to Kei Kamara’s header against Everton.
The Sierra Leonean scored the equaliser at Carrow Road and as a travelling Everton fan I can tell you that it only hurt half as much as when Grant Holt tucked away the winner.
But it does give Sierra Leone a rightful place on the list; number 88 of all the countries to have scored in the Premier League.
Now it is 88 countries altogether that make up the list of nations which have seen a player from their country score in the Premier League and when you consider there are 209 national associations affiliated with FIFA that is an astonishing amount.
No other league in world football comes close to the English total which truly reflects the multi-national game that the English Premier League has become.
Here is the entire list in full. Impress your friends… can you name players to match the countries?
That is how I worded the end to my last article on the topic but after watching several of my friends squirm for weeks over the list this time I am going to give you a few of them for free, in fact an example for each of the first 20.
