Gareth Bale stole the stole with two superb goals as Spurs spoilt the party on an emotional night at Upton Park. West Ham played well and took the lead thanks to Joe Cole’s neat finish before a stunning Bale strike in the closing minutes.
Lloris: 6 – Had a decent evening at the office and did what he needed to, when he needed to. His distribution still looks a bit questionable at times but he pulled off some important saves and interceptions.
Walker: 6 – Not his best game in a Spurs shirt by any means. Looked as if he was thinking and travelling at a million miles per hour which detracted from the quality that he normally shows consistently.
Dawson: 6 – Dealt with the physical presence of West Ham very well and got a couple of vital headers in, as West Ham were bearing down on the Tottenham goal at set pieces.
Caulker: 7 – Played very well in defence and neither of the West Ham goals had anything to do with him. Timed every tackle brilliantly and should have scored at the other end were he not foiled by numerous saves.
Vertonghen: 6 – Didn’t really look comfortable at left back but did his defensive job quite well. Didn’t get forward as much as another attacking left back may have done but he didn’t harm the shape of the defence or team.
Lennon: 5 – Poor, not one of his best Spurs game at all considering the amount of pressure and possession that the side had. Over hit a couple of simple crosses when a simple pull back may have been just as effective.
Parker: 6 – Worked his socks off all night but was to blame for the penalty. Rushed into a challenge on Andy Carroll and the striker was always going to go down once there was contact.
Holtby: 5 – Considering the way he’s started his Spurs career, he was a little disappointing. Ran all over the pitch, popping up in different positions but never really showed any major threat.
Dembele: 6 – Kept things ticking in the middle and was at the heart of nearly every counter attack. He looks like a very good player under pressure and he never really gave the ball away.
Bale: 8 – What can you say about this guy which hasn’t already been said? Bale scored two brilliant goals and the first was very Ronaldo-esque. Spurs need to enjoy him while they can.
Adebayor: 5 – Poor, which would have given ammunition to the fans who have been giving him some grief. Missed a sitter of a chance in the second half and generally didn’t look like much of a threat.
Sigurdsson: 6 – Came on and had more a direct attacking threat than Holtby, which made Spurs look much more threatening when he got on the ball.
