It was Tottenham who have been left smiling after the North London Derby after finishing the match at White Hart Lane 2-1 winners.
First half goals from Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon were enough to see the hosts through to a narrow victory despite late pressure from the Gunners.
We have taken a look at how the match was reported around Europe:
- Italian website TMW compiled their 'Tops' and 'Flops' of the match:
The tops? Man-of-the-match Jan Vertonghen, who they described as the 'best on the field', Gareth Bale - described as 'extraordinary' and both Tottenham full-backs Kyle Walker and Benoit Assou-Ekotto, credited with playing a key part in nullifying Cazorla and Walcott.
The flops? Olivier Giroud, described as being in 'declining' form since the turn of the year who missed too many chances, and Tomas Rosicky, brought onto ensure possession for Arsenal, but they stated the Gunners were better with Ramsey in the centre, calling the Czech midfielder 'useless.'
- French website L'Equipe:
L'Equipe chose to point out Arsenal's 'glaring weaknesses in defence', conceding two goals almost identically. They described the central axis of Mertesacker and Vermaelen as 'naive.'
The paper also described the defeat to Arsenal, which is a huge blow to their chances of finishing outside the top four as potentially 'more damaging than failing to win a trophy since 2005.'
- Spanish website Marca:
Marca focused unsurprisingly on Gareth Bale scoring the opening goal. The paper has regularly linked the Welshman with a move to Spanish capital Madrid. They commented that Arsenal improved as the match went on, but couldn't leave with anything positive.
What are your views on the observations?
