Chelsea need to up the ante over the summer in a number of ways which are going to benefit the team. We’ve taken a look at five key changes the side has to make in order to be more competitive next year.
Manager
Chelsea need to make the right managerial appointment, whether that’s Mourinho or someone else, and then that manager needs to be given time to shape the team and build a solid side over an emphasis on fast results.
Strikers
The club has to review its current striker options. It may be time for Fernando Torres to move on, with Chelsea bringing in a world class striker such as Falcao.
The club should also go to West Brom, recall Lukaku from his loan deal and get him into the squad because he’s shown at the Baggies, he can be very effective given a run of games.
Midfield
There is nothing wrong with the current crop of attacking midfielders at Chelsea but they need support in the form of a defensive player, who can take some of the pressure off of John Obi Mikel.
The club has never replaced Claude Makelele who just used to sit in front of the back four and pick off the opposition attacks, this is the sort of player Chelsea need.
Thibaut Courtois
Call him back from Atletico Madrid and get him into the squad to provide competition for Petr Cech. Cech is by no means a complacent player but it will send a strong message.
That message will be that no player is safe and any inconsistency means you could be out of the team after working hard to get into the side in the first place.
Youth
Youth players will have to come into the squad to ease the pressure, which is something any new manager simply has to do.
Chelsea have played more games so far this season than some sides play in an entire season, that means fatigue on an epic scale so youngsters have to come in and support the squad.
Chelsea fans, what do you think you need for next season?
