Liverpool have already come a long way under Brendan Rodgers but if they are to push on next season, they need to retain the services of some key players who have all been linked with moves away from Anfield after May.
Liverpool cannot let Reina leave this summer because he’s the best goalkeeper the club could have at this moment in time. A replacement would not have the same experience of playing for the club or the same expectations levels. He’s also vital in terms of the way he commands the back four.
Believe it or not but Agger has been tipped to move to Barcelona. They can’t let it happen because this is a defender who has possibly the best all round game of any player in the Liverpool defence. His control when in possession is superb and he can get aggressive when he needs to.
Shelvey has had an inconsistent season which has seen him fall out of favour recently. This has led to suggestions he could be sold this summer but he’s one of the best midfield prospects the club has. When they need someone to get stuck in and make things ugly, there’s no one better in the squad.
A few media sources have suggested that Borini could be on his way back to Italy with a couple of Serie A sides interested. Liverpool need to keep him because of the versatility he offers the attack; he can play as a centre forward, he can drop into the midfield and he can play slightly wider. Giving up on him too easily could prove to be a mistake and he should be given another year.
Suarez is linked with various big money moves away from Liverpool on a weekly basis. If the club is to push on next year, he has to be in the attack. Liverpool are only going to get better and add to the squad which enhances his chances of improving an already phenomenal strike rate at the club.
Who do you think Liverpool need to keep next season?
