Micah Richards is still out of action following knee surgery earlier in the season and the side needs to get him back fit and fighting as soon as possible.
They need him back because he injects pace into the back four. He is one of the quickest defenders that City own and he’s one of the best in the Premier League when it comes to that right back slot.
His qualities as a defender are supported by the number of benefits he brings to the side in other areas, which are important reasons why the side needs to have him back as soon as possible.
He has a brilliant work ethic which is very important for any side looking to make back points. He is an extremely fit young man which enables him to work his socks off up and down the right wing throughout a whole game.
He’s also a very popular guy in and around the dressing room, which is important in terms of keeping team spirits high.
If City allow heads to drop then they will have a worse chance of retaining their Premier League title. This is just a side effect of Richards as a player but it’s an important reason to get him back as soon as possible.
His presence also means Roberto Mancini has more defensive options in terms of who he plays in the back four and in the middle of games, if he chooses to switch to a back three or play with two wide wing backs.
This is also a defender who is technically very gifted. He’s good on the ball, controls possession well and can spot forward thinking passes which have the ability to set up a counter attack very quickly.
He’s the sort of player who is loyal and extremely driven. He may feel as though he has a lot to pay back the club for, which means he could be a better defensive option in tight and tense games with that extra motivation.
However, the most important thing is not to risk his fitness even further but City need him, maybe more than most appreciate.
City fans, rest him for next season or get him back quickly?
