Newcastle United managed to dispose of the always tricky Stoke City this weekend with a late goal from Papiss Cisse proving the difference between the two sides.
A lot has been made recently of the influx of French or French speaking players at St James Park but this game was interesting thanks to the introduction of one of their very own.
One of the criticisms levelled at Newcastle recently has been that this influx of foreign talent will hinder the chances of young players at a club that has taken great pride in being a region full of footballing talent.
One club in the region well known for its development of footballers at an elite level is Wallsend Boys Club. Over the years they have produced over 60 future professional footballers including the likes of Peter Beardsley, Michael Carrick and Alan Shearer.
Now they can add another such talent to the list after Adam Campbell made his Premier League debut against Stoke to universal acclaim.
The 18-year-old has been compared to Wayne Rooney in the past with their playing styles and physical build similar in style.
The North Shields lad has also represented England at youth team level and Alan Pardew had no qualms about throwing him into the deep end this weekend gone:
“He deserved his little chance, and he was involved in the goal. It’s up to him how good he is. I’ve gave Oxlaide-Chamberlain his debut at 16 at Southampton, Mark Noble with West Ham at 16, and Jonjo Shelvey at 16 with Charlton. Adam Campbell’s just as good.”
While his cameo also received the backing of the Toon Army on Twitter and a few team-mates for club and country&;
