Valve adds VR to Team Fortress 2

Hot off the heels of a BAFTA win and increased rumours around its potential Steam Box console, Valve has announced the addition of a Virtual Reality mode to its popular free-to-play shooter Team Fortress 2.

Set to be released in the next few days, Valve promises that gamers' with an Oculus Rift development kit will be able to use their device to play Team Fortress 2 on the PC, with all the game's modes supported.

"When we first played an early version of Virtual Reality mode in Team Fortress we were blown away by the immersion we experienced," said Joe Ludwig at Valve.

"VR is just getting started, but it is going to have a big impact on gaming. This update will let us share that experience with more of the Team Fortress community."

Currently only available in development kit-form, Oculus Rift promises to be the cutting edge of virtual reality for videogames, with pre-orders now available for the next round of development kits.

Oculus founder Palmer Luckey commented: "Valve's done an incredible job bringing Team Fortress 2 to virtual reality! TF2 is the most-played game in my Steam library, so you can imagine how excited I am to play it in the Rift with all of our backers.”
