Chelsea have several advantages in the battle for 16-year-old Isaiah Brown and the biggest of them comes in the form of on loan striker Romelu Lukaku.
Lukaku is a key figure at West Brom despite the fact he’s still a teenager himself and he will be a first team player that someone like Brown looks up to.
Chelsea are reportedly ready to double that amount but they need a little bit of assistance because of the reputation Arsene Wenger has, as being one of the best in the business in terms of developing teenagers.
What Lukaku can do for Chelsea is effectively sell the club to Brown, give him reassurance over the club’s infrastructure and safeguard any worries he would have over joining Chelsea.
Lukaku is one of the most contemporary examples of a player who has gone to Chelsea, been allowed to develop on loan and is producing positive results.
Brown won’t possibly expect to get anywhere near the Chelsea first team any time soon, but Lukaku is the proof that a young teenager can still have a productive career and develop in a strong way despite not being in the first team of his parent club.
Chelsea loan star Thibaut Courtois is likely to be a bargaining chip in their move for Falcao, with the option of allowing him to stay another year, on the table and the Blues could even come to a similar arrangement with the Baggies for Lukaku.
Both Chelsea and Arsenal have infrastructures which are well suited to raising and developing the best teenagers in the game, but if Chelsea can get Lukaku to spread the good word, they have the financial muscle to back this up.
There is no reason why he shouldn’t do them a favour because although he’s on loan at another club, he doesn’t seem to hold any resentment towards Chelsea and has made it clear he wants to become a Chelsea legend over the course of his career.
He may even have already put some good words in about Chelsea and what representing the club, away from the club, is like and the benefits of being owned and looked after by Chelsea.
Chelsea also have the added advantage that Steve Clarke has previously worked for the club, so if he thinks it would be a good move for Brown, combined with the kind words of Lukaku and the ample money they have, it should be one of their first deals of the summer.
Chelsea fans, what do you make of Brown? Is he worth £2 million?
