Andreas Weimann has been one of the stand out performers in a struggling Aston Villa side this season. In fact he’s been so good there seems to be a different club interested in him every single day.
One club with an interest is Inter Milan and while Weimann may desire a move, it may not be the best thing for him and his development.
The pressure of playing for Inter Milan is completely different to the pressure of playing for Aston Villa. The expectation levels are a lot higher and that all has the ability to affect Weimann’s game to the point where he could struggle and his reputation would be damaged.
When he’s fit and available, he is guaranteed a starting place at Aston Villa because he has been that effective for the club. It’s a different story at Inter Milan because the quality of the squad is so much higher, which means Weimann could spend a lot of time sitting on the bench.
A move to Inter Milan means a move to Italy and another chance in culture. The upheaval can be very tiring on a young professional, if he’s constantly moving around. It also means adjusting to a new way of living, making new friends and settling into another city.
Weimann can become an idol with the Aston Villa fans and in the eyes of some, he already is. If he effectively abandons ship then all of the respect that Aston villa fans have for him will evaporate. Think of how much respect Newcastle fans have retained for Coloccini and Gutierrez when they stayed despite relegation.
If Villa stay up, then the team has a very bright future because it has a lot of potential. It could be the making of this Aston Villa side and anything after this season is an improvement and an achievement. Going to Inter Milan takes away the excitement and the challenge of that for him as a player because they are a well established European club.
Villa fans, do you see him staying?
