The England U21 side is on an incredible run of form at the moment, having dominated their qualifying group ahead of the summer's European Championships hosted in Israel. That fine run continued last night with a 3-0 win over Romania that was the team's eighth successive victory, all of which have come without the side conceding.
Manchester United's recent signing Wilfried Zaha opened the scoring and has generally taken the plaudits after the match, but Liverpool fans can be delighted with their youngsters’ contribution, as the England U21 side is now built around their young talent.
Andre Wisdom lined up at the back, with Jack Robinson also coming on at half time, whilst Jordan Henderson captained the side from midfield. Jonjo Shelvey played in an attacking role behind Zaha and also Raheem Sterling. Sterling was superb throughout the match, setting up Zaha's opener and ending up unlucky not to get on the score sheet himself.
Jack Robinson did grab a goal, with Jonjo Shelvey providing the assist for that and also Nathan Delfouneso's late strike. Jordan Henderson again looked impressive in a season where he has started to replicate come of the form that made Liverpool so keen to sign him from Sunderland.
Raheem Sterling's excellent performance has to be the highlight for Liverpool fans, as it is very impressive that the youngster is still delivering at such a high level near the end of a season where he has broken through into Brendan Rodgers' senior side for the first time.
Liverpool will no doubt look to enter the transfer market again this summer, and their season might still end up without them qualifying for Europe next year, but last night showed again that they have a legion of talented young players in their ranks, and one day they could make up the spine of their own side.
