Bale spoke on Wednesday (23rd July) ahead of his side's Champions Cup opener against Inter Milan.

Real Madrid's Gareth Bale believes that La Liga's ability to attract the world's best player has seen it become the best league in football.

Real Madrid have pulled off two marquee signings so far this summer, signing Bayern Munich's Toni Kroos and Monaco's James Rodriguez, while rivals Barcelona secured Luis Suarez's signature from Liverpool.

Bale, who joined Los Blancos in an £82 million deal from Tottenham Hotspur at the beginning of last season, believes that acquisitions such as these make La Liga the best in the world.

"I think the Spanish league is probably the most exciting", the Welshman said. "There's the world's top players there.

"Barcelona and Real Madrid are always there in the Champions League, either winning it or coming very close."

He added: "The Premier League is a great league, I think it's very close. But I think we're attracting the best players now to La Liga. It's making it exciting and it's great to be involved in it."

Bale is in a rare position, being a British player who developed in the Premier League before moving to Spain. Not since the days of David Beckham and Micheal Owen playing for Real Madrid has such a high-profile British player made the switch to La Liga.

Bale's comments hold some real weight for that reason. Part of his enthusiasm for the league is surely due to how his dream move to Madrid has panned out over the last year. He won his first major trophy, scoring in the Champions League final win over rivals Atletico.

The 25-year-old is delighted with how his first season with the club went and is looking to build on his success next year.

"Since I have been here everybody has been amazing with me and welcomed me to the club and the fans have been fantastic," he said. "It has been exactly what I hoped for.

"To win trophies last season was a bonus and and this year we'll be trying to do the same and even more."

Real Madrid face Inter Milan on Saturday (July 26) in the Champions Cup, which also features Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City, among others.
