Leon Osman on why the future is bright for Everton

Everton midfielder Leon Osman believes that the club are going places this season.

It has been a week to remember for the Blue half of Merseyside after Ross Barkley's four-year contract extension was followed up with the club-record signing of £28 million striker Romelu Lukaku.

The Toffees also landed Bosnian international Muhamed Besic earlier this week, and in a summer that has also seen the extension of Seamus Coleman's contract and the permanent deal for Gareth Barry, Osman thinks that the future is bright for his club.

The veteran midfielder told Sky Sports News: “It’s absolutely great news, Seamus Coleman signed a deal as well and our young and up-and-coming players, who have shown qualities at the top of their game are committing to the club.

“We’ve got to repeat what we managed to do last season and hit the ground running. We can hit the heights of last season and once you do that, you can improve on last season. Maybe we can finish a little bit higher, but also we’ve got to try and aim for silverware as well, and see what we can get.

“It’s great that the club have shown that their ambitions matched their own, and that’s a great thing going forward. The players love [Lukaku], the fans love him, hopefully he can play a part [in my testimonial]. It’s a big game for me personally, and hopefully the fans can come and enjoy it."

Lukaku's arrival comfortably dwarfs the £15 million the Blues paid to land Marouane Fellaini from Standard Liege in 2008 and the fee was thought to have been outside of Everton's budget this summer.

However, Roberto Martinez convinced Lukaku to rejoin the Goodison Park outfit and former striker Graham Stuart thinks a lot of praise should go to chairman Bill Kenwright for bankrolling the club's biggest-ever outlay.

"Great credit must go to Bill Kenwright, the chairman for coming up with the money for such a magnificent signing," Stuart told Sky Sports News. "And well done to Roberto Martinez for being able to attract a signing like Romelu Lukaku."
