Toy Story 3 set to be 2010's best-reviewed film

Toy Story 3 set to be 2010's best-reviewed filmWith just two days left of the year, Toy Story 3 looks set to be the best-reviewed film of 2010, according to the website rottentomatoes.com.

The site, which compiles reviews from more than 200 critics and ranks films as "fresh" or "rotten" accordingly, has not yet handed out its annual Golden Tomato awards, but says the final film in Pixar's trilogy about a group of toys that come to life when humans are not around will almost certainly be its No 1. Toy Story 3 is currently sitting pretty on 99% "fresh", Reuters reports, with only the Oscar-tipped The Social Network, which has 97%, in with a realistic chance of overtaking it.

If the animated tale made No 1 it would mark the fourth time in as many years that a Pixar film attained that spot. Last year saw the Disney-owned firm's film Up take the top position, while Wall-E and Ratatouille were named the best-reviewed films of 2008 and 2007 respectively. Toy Story 3 would also achieve the impressive double of best-reviewed film and highest-grossing film worldwide, after making more than $1bn at the box office in 2010.

Rotten Tomatoes' editor-in-chief, Matt Atchity, told Reuters there was still a slim chance that Facebook film The Social Network, which only came out in October, might rise to the top spot. "If five or six more positive reviews came in, it could change that," he said. "But what I can tell you is that it's down to those two movies."

Other films which have scored highly in 2010 include DreamWorks animation How to Train Your Dragon, with 98%, The Coen brothers' new film, True Grit, with 95%, and Oscar-tipped British film The King's Speech, with 96%. Two of the worst-reviewed films are the horror spoof Vampires Suck, with 4%, and M Night Shyamalan turkey The Last Airbender, with a measly 6%.
