Chelsea latest: Including Terry and Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku

A round-up of news and gossip relating to Chelsea over the past 24 hours.

John Terry has today denied the FA charge “of using abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour, which included a reference to ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race, towards Queens Park Rangers' Anton Ferdinand.” The player was cleared in court of racially aggravated abuse but was hit with the FA charge in its aftermath. In addition, the player has requested a personal hearing for which the date has not yet been set.

According to Caught Offside, West Ham manager Sam Allardyce will make a loan offer for Romelu Lukaku with the guarantee of first-team football. West Ham have seen attempts to sign Andy Carroll and Dimitar Berbatov rebuffed and hope Lukaku can lead the club’s forward line in their return to the top-flight. The player has recently stated that he would only move to a Premier League on loan and the guarantee of first-team football could benefit the player and Chelsea who paid close to £20m for the exciting teenager.

Caught Offside also claim that Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas is preparing a £28m for Chelsea’sDaniel Sturridge and Raul Meireles that would be funded by the sale of Luka Modric. Both players, in contrast to some senior Chelsea players, enjoyed a good relationship with the manager and particularly Sturridge who saw scarce playing time after the Portuguese’s dismissal. Meireles played a key part in Chelsea’s Champions League victory but is unlikely to command a starting role following the signings of Oscar, Marin and Hazard. Chelsea’s spending so far could indicate a willingness to recoup some of their expenditure.

Paris Saint-Germain and former Chelsea head coach Carlo Ancelotti is reported to be interested in bringing left-back Ashley Cole to the French capital. The 31-year-old has one year remaining on his contract and the interest from PSG follows reports that United were considering a bid for the England international. However the player maintains that he is happy at the club and recently underlined his love for the club on Twitter.

ESPN report on the same topic and claim the player is looking for a pay rise of £70,000 in his final career contract. This would see his wages rise to £200,000 a week making him the club’s best player. Whether Chelsea oblige to these demands remains to be seen and whilst the left-back would ideally want to stay at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea have in the past been reluctant to offer extravagant deals for players aged over 30.
