Or is that silly question? Either way, sales have slowed, and the dimly-lit, babe-staffed store is closing some of its US locations.
Not that I really mind. I'm too old to walk into Abercrombie & Fitch, and my kids aren't old enough to drag me there. (And if I'm lucky, all the stores will be closed by the time they are.) And God knows I'd rather smell my own perfume than their cologne.
But here's what's happening: 135 stores have closed in the US in the past two years, and in the next three years, the chain will be closing 180 more.
Hollister Co., the company's less expensive and even sillier store, which is aimed toward a younger market (junior high instead of high school students), has also been suffering and will see some closures.
Last year, Abercrombie's opening of 47 stores internationally didn't do very well either. Apparently they raised their prices just before the debt crisis struck, just as they were introducing their goods into the market.) The chain is planning to continue its international growth, though, trusting there will always be someone who wants be shirtless.
