Arsenal latest: Including Champions League draw and Chamakh

Chamakh

All the news and gossip relating to Arsenal FC in the past 24 hours.

Arsenal have drawn Schalke, Olympiakos, and Montpellier in the Champions League. Olympiakos are regular opponents for the Gunners, and will be without last season's top scorer and one time target Kevin Mirallas, now at Everton. The matches against Montpellier will see Olivier Giroud come up against his former club, and former teammate Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, unless he is signed by the Gunners, or another club on deadline day.

Arsene Wenger remains confident that Theo Walcott will remain at the club beyond the transfer window and further despite contract talks with the player collapsing this week. The England international has reportedly shunned a £75,000 a week deal but the Frenchman insists Walcott is not ‘obsessed with money’ and that he loves the club. It is believed a short term agreement has been formulated so that Arsenal do not lose Theo before the end of Friday's window.

But reports also suggest that Man City will still attempt to lure Theo from the Emirates with the promise of silverware and higher wages. Arsenal convince City to let Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko join in a part-exchange deal. The striker moved from Wolfsburg last summer and despite a promising start to his Eastland’s career he has since been shoved down the pecking order. Italian sides Juventus and Inter Milan are also reportedly interested in the marksman.

A striker seemingly on his way out of the Emirates will be Moroccan Maraoune Chamakh. The former Bordeaux striker is reportedly catching the eye of Spanish side Malaga whilst the favourites to land his signature are Turkish giants Besiktas. Arsenal are willing to let him go on a loan deal and Besiktas appear the favourites owing to their superior financial power over the massively in debt Malaga, but the Spanish side hope Arsenal may show them goodwill after their recent dealings over the Santi Cazorla deal.

Arsene Wenger however is worried about being left short up top especially as Nicklas Bendtner appears likely to join Juventus in the next 24 hours. The Dane has been linked with many teams this summer including Galatasaray and AC Milan; whilst Juventus have failed to sign big targets, Robin van Persie, Fernando Llorente, Dimitar Berbatov and Stevan Jovetic. Therefore the Old Lady have turned their attentions to the Danish outcast for a deal that could be worth as little as £5 million.

Arsenal’s youngsters got their NextGen campaign off to a flying start yesterday with a 3-0 crushing of Marseille. Chuba Akpom starred with 2 goals and an assist for the equally impressive Nico Yennaris as Arsenal went joint top of Group 6 with Athletic Bilbao.

Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Theo Walcott have been included in Roy Hodgson’s England squad for the World Cup Qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine in September.
