A mass vigil in Liverpool has been held in memory of the 96 people who died in the Hillsborough disaster 23 years ago. The 96 names of the victims were read out aloud helped by Kenny Dalglish and Jamie Carragher whilst members of Liverpool’s youth academy carried lanterns in memory of the dead. Over 10,000 people attended the services and it was described as a ‘sombre’ ‘sea of football scarves’. The vigil came in reaction to the release of previously unknown documental factors relating to a cover-up over the cause of the crush and vindication of Liverpool fans in a 23-year fight for the truth.
Liverpool fans as a whole however have been quick to remind people that now the truth may be out justice is still not done and prosecutions should be chased for the people responsible for the tragedy.
Pepe Reina’s agent has jumped to the aid of his client by reporting the keeper has little desire to leave the club. There has been speculation that his recent run of poor form was a direct reaction to his feelings about the running of the club and was ready to quit Anfield.
