There is a quiet revolution going on that the rest of Europe needs to take notice of. Paris Saint-Germain are starting to look like a very good side, a very good side indeed.
It’s amazing to think that this club was only formed in 1970. By 1974 they were playing in the French Ligue 1 and have been there ever since.
In 2011 Qatar Investment Authority took sole ownership of the club and the club is believed to be worth over one hundred million Euros. They made it perfectly clear they wanted to build a great side and they started by getting in Leonardo as Director of Football; a man that knows the game inside and out.
Then they added ex Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti. A man with great knowledge of the game and more importantly knows the European scene like the back of his hand. In his first season in charge he led them to become the runners up of Ligue 1.
But he hadn’t really started as he’d only been in charge a few months. Ezequiel Lavezzi was bought from Napoli for around thirty million Euros. The player from Argentina is class and he can play either out on the wing or up front.
Add to that Zlatan Ibrahimovic, captain of Sweden and a very good experienced and magical player. He has played for some of the best clubs in Europe and his wealth of football knowledge can only help his new team. The fee is believed to be around twenty million Euros for the thirty year old striker.
Another player added is Javier Pastore and at 23 has the world at his feet. The money paid out for him was just under forty million Euros. In thirty seven appearances he’s scored fourteen goals; a good return so far on the attacking midfielder.
Last week the French outfit played Dynamo Kiev and beat them by four goals to one in an impressive win in the Champions League. On Sunday they beat Bastia in Ligue 1 by four goals to nil.
This is a football team that is shaping up nicely with some very good players and I for one wouldn’t be surprised if they made it to the Champions League final; maybe against ‘moneybags’ Manchester City?
