Blackpool have the added advantage that their manager Ian Holloway has guided them into the Premier League before. He knows how to handle his squad over a 46 game season and he knows how to get his team into a great position at the top of the table. Blackpool can win the league if they show the consistency needed to dominate the top position.
The Championship is the gateway into the riches, fame and glamour offered by the Premier League. The fact that leader of the Championship has changed routinely this season suggests there are a few possible winners of the title. Here are the main candidates.
Blackburn Rovers were relegated from the Premier League last season and they have started the season in decent fashion. They have lost manager Steve Kean who is yet to be replaced but the size and resources that Blackburn have at their disposal suggest that they will be in the fight to win the league for most of the season. They are currently seventh with a game in hand which could take them up to third. Blackburn also have the added advantage of having a massive support base compared to some clubs in the Championship.
Cardiff have been sniffing around the issue of Premier League promotion for what seems like years and years. They currently hold the top spot and are similar to Blackpool in the respect that they know what it takes to stay near the top of the league for the whole season. They need to improve on their away form having lost two away matches already but they are in with a strong claim. Cardiff will have the determination created by repeated play-off heartbreak.
Leicester City have been aiming for a shot in the Premier League over the last few years but they have always fallen at the final hurdle. They have superb home form with a one hundred per cent win rate from four games. Away from home they either win or lose with two wins and three defeats. Leicester are by no means majestic when it comes to scoring goals and defending but they are consistent and consistency will win the league over such a long season.
Wolves were another of the sides relegated down to the Championship at the end of last season. They are currently in the play-off places and well in the mix. Some consistent wins over the next few weeks could see them become the latest team to hold first place in the league. They have lost key players over the summer but they have won five out of nine games so far which is a very good ratio.
Who else stands a chance? Can Brighton keep up their early season good form?
