Andrew Bynum is the 76ers major acquisition, but how will he affect them?
Placing last season: 35-31 (8th in Eastern Conference, Playoffs: Second round exit)
Key moves: The Sixers traded away their best player, but in doing so received the mercurial Andrew Bynum (above) and sharpshooter Jason Richardson.
It was a bold move by the Sixers that saw them help the Lakers acquire perennial all-star Dwight Howard. They also waived Elton Brand and his monster contract, which you think they’d have offloaded a long time ago if the opportunity arose.
Signing Nick Young gives them another perimeter player, although the shot-happy Young could irritate fans with his streaky play.
Challenges ahead: The Sixers absolutely have to have a fit Andrew Bynum who has got knee arthritis at the tender age of 24.
He has already been told to sit out the pre-season, having received treatment in Germany in September.
Reason to be positive: The Sixers had hit their ceiling with Igoudala and it was unlikely there was any potential for them to go deeper than they did last year, when they beat the Rose-less Bulls in the first round.
Bynum offers them a new angle and they will hope that the front court presence will take them to the next level.
Prediction: 42-40 (7th in Eastern Conference)
