A lot of players get stick for the way they interact on Twitter, and sure a few of them use the social media tool pretty unwisely; not only this but they risk the wrath of the internet’s new breed of monster, the cowardly troll.
Hiding behind the façade of anonymity that a computer gives them; forgetting in their moments of ignorant bravado how simple it is for not even the smartest of computer aficionados to track them down and seek justice through judicial means, an all too common interaction in recent months.
Yet it is also a great way to see how the players are interacting through the site and the recent ‘interaction’ that caught my attention was that between Arsenal’s teenage prodigies Nico Yennaris and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
While The Ox has become very popular off the pitch as well as on it for his open personality and humorous character little has been seen of Nico off of it but the two had a great friendly war of words over the internet this week, stemming from a photo upload of Nico facing Alex, who was of course with Southampton at the time, at under-14 level on the famous Highbury turf.
While ‘The Ox’ is an obvious alias based on a literary play of words there is also remnants of physicality behind the nickname; his bullish physique allows him to demonstrate his physique often but in this picture he is absolutely tiny in comparison to Yennaris.
The ‘Tweet battle’ that ensued was good natured and funny which even had a great mention of the ‘size 10 boots’ Nico appears to be wearing as a 14-year-old, or 12-year-old depending on who you believe.
Here are some of the Tweet’s and you can see the picture here…
Nico Yennaris @Nico_Yennaris Can anybody guess who this is in the picture ?!!!!
Obviously it's me but who is trying to tackle me is the question?! Ill give you until 9pm to guess
Nico Yennaris @Nico_Yennaris It was @Alex_OxChambo at u14s playing at highbury... Funny how times have changed
Alex Ox-Chamberlain @Alex_OxChambo @Nico_Yennaris Haha U12's,dunno about your huge size 10 boots though! Your parents defo gave it "You'll have room to grow into them" looool
Nico Yennaris @Nico_Yennaris @Alex_OxChambo hahhahahahhahahahha pipe down lad, u was just small
Good to see the Arsenal lads seem to get on off the pitch and that for all the ostracising and pedestal placing we do regrettably sometimes do to these young footballers, Twitter can be a window to the fact they are just 19-year-old lads having a laugh.
Have you spotted any funny Twitter interactions recently?
