Tottenham Hotspur latest: Including Villa team news

White Hart Lane 5

All the latest Tottenham Hotspur news, views, and gossip from the past 24 hours.

Andre Villas-Boas has praised defender Steven Caulker, describing him as an 'England regular for years to come'. The centre-back was on loan at Swansea last season, and has quickly made an impression back at Spurs, featuring in their win at Old Trafford last weekend.

The manager has blamed 'fatigue' for the club surrendering their lead against Panathaniakos last night. Spurs still left Greece with a 1-1 draw, but the manager said they tired in the second half. The match was their third away game in just over a week, and the boss will attempt to freshen things up against Aston Villa at the weekend.

Hugo Lloris was in goal for the match, and we have collated a snapshot of various Spurs supporters' reactions to his performance.

Tottenham face Aston Villa on Sunday in a 3pm kick-off which is not being televised live in the UK. Goalkeeper Brad Friedel is expected to take his place in goal, while Sandro is also expected to return after sitting on the bench last night.

Emmanuel Adebayor is also tipped to be fit, but given Jermain Defoe's excellent recent form, the Togolese striker will likely come off the bench in the second half.

Aston Villa are coming off two contrasting away results, a 4-2 win at Manchester City in the League Cup, and a 4-1 loss to Southampton last weekend in the Premier League. Tottenham won the corresponding fixture 2-0 last season. However manager Paul Lambert masterminded a memorable but costly 2-1 win at White Hart Lane with Norwich on his last visit to the stadium.

Villa are missing both Richard Dunne and Stephen Ireland through injury, and should start former Spurs striker Darren Bent up front.

Clint Dempsey has spoken of his determination to score this weekend against fellow USA international, goalkeeper Brad Guzan, who has played the last two games for Villa since number one Shay Given got injured.

Spurs were linked with West Brom defender Jonas Olsson in the summer, whose contract expires next year. However the 29-year-old is now reported to be close to agreeing a new deal with the Baggies, which would close the door on any move to White Hart Lane.

And finally, the dates or times of three Tottenham fixtures have been changed after being selected by Sky for live coverage. They are the home game with Swansea, now December 16 at 1.30pm; Aston Villa away, Boxing Day 5.30pm; and Sunderland away on December 29 now at 12.45pm
