Is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain getting some unnecessary stick?

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain

Some people have started labelling the 19-year-old Arsenal player as arrogant; and that his extra-curricular commitments might be distracting him from football but what do you think?

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is without doubt one of the great hopes of the English game. His technical prowess, physical presence and natural pace of body and mind make him one of the closest players we have to the current crop of Continental geniuses that are making our boys look inferior on a regular basis.

While his talent on the pitch is one thing he also possesses certain skills that make him an attractive prospect off of it. He is accessible, funny and always willing to speak to cameras and members of the public alike. His confident demeanour make a change from the sometimes ‘word-in-mouth’ dialogue that British footballers spiel out during interviews.

The fact so many unfortunate words get said on Twitter highlight how sometimes what players think is not exactly what they say in press conferences, interviews and events.

With ‘The Ox’ you do not get that impression; rather he is just enjoying being a professional footballer excelling in his career as a teenager and therefore reaping the rewards of all that entails.

But his accessibility has seen him used for media purposes. His Ox TV feature on Arsenal.com; where fans send in questions and challenges to him is a big hit, he often gets help from surly sidekick Wojciech Szczesny. This is all done outside the training schedule, off his own back for a bit of fun and a laugh, not to mention the interaction he gets with fans.

Now he has been named the new face of O2 Sports in a lucrative sponsorship deal. The telecommunications company has obviously seen the potential marketing opportunities somebody with Alex’s charisma brings them.

Yet it was interesting during a Soccer AM interview that when asked about Ox TV by their resident clown Tubes he quickly said how he wasn’t a TV presenter, a footballer first and nobody should think differently.

I was taken aback; does anybody really think that about Oxlade-Chamberlain?

Turns out they do to my disbelief….

Realistic ‏@Famlan @Alex_OxChambo u have the potential2be the best don't get big headed now n feel u know it all.Maybe u don't but u give that impression

Or from a message-board entitled 'Oxlade-Chamberlain: All smoke and mirrors ...

I think there's something there definitely, but his attitude & arrogance is already showing

Even if he is arrogant, what is wrong with that it shows belief in his talent- Or would we prefer him to not talk to fans and interact and to be just be all the other players out there at the moment?

What do you think? Does Oxlade-Chamberlain need to be less ‘’arrogant’’?
