Will jealousy of Nasri and Clichy tempt Sagna to leave?

Sagna

Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has admitted he could be tempted by a summer switch to Inter Milan.

The 29-year-old is entering the final year of his contract and has been somewhat discontented with Arsenal’s selling of Alex Song, following the departure of Robin van Persie.

He described his ‘surprise’ at the sale of his former teammate,

“Everyone was expecting van Persie to leave, but Song, that was a surprise. I don’t understand that at all.”

To which he received a tough stance from manager Arsene Wenger, who responded:

“If he is not completely happy with it then he has to go somewhere else.”

This standoff between the player and his manager has only exacerbated speculation that Sagna will be sold before the end of his contract. He is understood to be interesting Inter Milan, amongst a number of other elite European clubs.

He has outlined his disappointment at not having won a trophy with Arsenal in his five-year career at the club.

The France international spoke of his former teammates Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy who moved to Premier League champions Manchester City in 2011.

“I watched City’s parade on TV. I saw Samir and Gael lift the trophy. I want that.”

However, Arsenal may have less cause for concern – due to Sagna’s injury which has seen him side-lined so far this season, young English full back Carl Jenkinson has emerged as one of the Gunners most promising talents and has even earned himself suggestions that he should be called up to play for England.

Bacary Sagna is expected to return to the Arsenal first-team squad towards the end of this month and Wenger remains hopefully that he will make a full return in less than three weeks.

But Sagna may now find himself fighting for his place on the team sheet as Jenkinson may have earned himself the right to stay there. I doubt Sagna’s comments on the club’s financial policy will have done him any favours with his manager.

Wenger has taken a tough stance on Theo Walcott’s contract situation, playing him mostly as a second-half substitute due to his refusal to sign a contract extension.
