Tottenham Hotspur latest: including team news for Maribor and Pjanic

Spurs Pre Season

A round-up of news and view relating to Tottenham Hotspur over the past 24 hours.

Ahead of the match tomorrow in Slovenia, it has been revealed that Mousa Dembele, Gareth Bale and Emmanuel Adebayor have not travelled for the match. At his press conference for the match, Villas-Boas explained that Bale stayed at home for family reasons, with Adebayor and Dembele injured. All could feature at the weekend in the match against Southampton.

Andre Villas- Boas has also said that the club has no intention of letting Emmanuel Adebayor leave. There have been reports that the Togolese striker is unhappy with his lack of starts but Villas-Boas said that Adebayor will get his chance, but the form of Jermain Defoe in the one striker system means that he will have to wait:

"Obviously, every player wants to play, at the moment we are using the structure of one striker and Defoe has been doing extremely well,"

The Spurs boss also cooled the speculation surrounding a move for Shakhtar forward Willian. The Brazilian was excellent in the Ukrainian club’s 2-1 win over Chelsea last night, but Villas-Boas has said the club has not looked at January transfers yet, and the main players coming in will be those returning from injury.

Villas-Boas’ words haven’t cooled the transfer speculation though, with the 22 year old Roma playmaker Milan Pjanic linked with a £15 million move to North London. The Bosnia and Herzegovina international has not featured much for Roma this season, and the club are reportedly willing to let him leave.

Pjanic could be coming in instead of Joao Moutinho. The Porto midfielder has been a long term target for Spurs, but the move looks unlikely now with Paris St. Germain also interested and the midfielder only seeking a move to a Champions League club. PSG are reportedly ready to pay £30 million for his services.

Several clubs have been alerted by the Lyon President Jean Michel-Aulas announcing his club will need to sell some of their stars due to financial problems. Aulas has said that three players need to go, with two to leave in the winter transfer window. The Brazilian left back/winger Michel Bastos has been linked with Spurs on several occasions.

Brad Friedel may consider retiring at the end of the current season. The American keeper has been competing with Hugo Lloris for the number one spot at Spurs.

The Spurs Next Gen side threw away a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Wolfsburg. An excellent brace from Adam Pritchard put Spurs in control, but a penalty and a last gasp equaliser pegged them back. The two sides are tied on four points each in the group.
