With some massive Premier League clashes on the card this weekend (Everton v Liverpool, Chelsea v Man Utd), there is a good chance for a few players to impress and improve their club status. Here are five of them.
Javier Hernandez will be extremely unlucky not to start for Manchester United in the match against Chelsea. He virtually carried the side on his own through the Champions League match against Braga and proved that he can sometimes be more effective than Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie. Hernandez should start the game if Sir Alex Ferguson sticks with the narrow diamond formation.
Aaron Ramsey was in the heart of the Arsenal midfield as the North London side lost to Schalke in the Champions League. The reason Ramsey is on the list is because he has a chance to dominate the game against Queens Park Rangers. All of the talk this season has been about Santi Cazorla but Ramsey has a great opportunity here to show that he is one of the players who pulls the strings in the Arsenal team.
Andy Carroll is under a little bit of pressure after his recent comments about Liverpool, still his employers. West Ham United go to Wigan and Carroll should be focusing on dominating the Wigan defence for his current side. He can elevate his status with a brilliant performance which would reap further ridicule on Liverpool for ever letting him go out on loan in the first place considering their current striker crisis.
Nikica Jelavic will probably go down as one of David Moyes’ best ever signings. Jelavic has a big job to do in leading the front line ineverton, west brom, newcastle the Merseyside derby. There is no Marouane Fellaini which means Jelavic is the figure in the attack who needs to rough up the Liverpool defence, hold the ball up, bring others into play and generally make a nuisance of himself. If he puts in a good performance it will go a long way to showing that Everton can cope without Fellaini.
West Brom travel to Newcastle United and Shane Long is likely to start in the West Brom attack. At home this season West Brom have been superb and if Long leads the front line well in this match and if he manages to grab a goal, it will allow his manager to play five across the middle knowing that he will take care of the attack. This means West Brom will be harder to break down if Long can carry the attack of the team.
Will it be a weekend to remember for these strikers or do you think defenders will win out?
